What are Non Traditional Properties?
When we say non-traditional construction, often it is the post-war housing, from 1950s-1970s that is thought about, where they use factory techniques.
The term can also be used more broadly on materials and/or construction that is non-traditional. This can range from:
- Earth buildings, which we have good experience of.
- Buildings that have been/can be converted for use, such as windmills and oast houses, pubs, churches and of course retail/shops, and any building really where you think there is something unusual about it.
Standardised Construction
Whilst many of these use standardised construction, particularly in the non-traditional housing market, we also find standardised construction in other sectors, often due to the use of the building;
For example: Windmills and Oast Houses are fairly standard, albeit non-standard construction techniques that were used as they were developed.
Equally, the types of buildings, such as pubs, churches and retail buildings, especially when purpose built, have a standardised construction.
